Arroyo Burro “Hendrys” Beach Black & White
Arroyo Burro Beach, more commonly known to Santa Barbara locals as Hendry’s Beach, is a beloved coastal county park situated at the mouth of the Arroyo Burro Creek, offering a beautiful stretch of coastline beneath towering coastal bluffs. The official name, Arroyo Burro, is Spanish for “Donkey Stream,” but the popular local name stems from the Hendry family, Scottish immigrants who farmed the surrounding area extensively from the late 19th century until 1918, cultivating crops like lima beans on the mesa above the beach. This spot is famous for its dog-friendly beach, a grassy picnic area, and the popular Boathouse Restaurant, making it a favorite destination for both local residents and visitors who enjoy walking, surfing, and soaking up the sun with that classic Santa Barbara beach atmosphere.
