Mesa Lane Steps, Santa Barbara

Mesa Lane Steps are located at the southern end of Mesa Lane and provide access to a picturesque stretch of beach beneath the coastal bluffs. The steps begin at the south end of Mesa Lane, offering the only beach access for a mile in both directions. Constructed in 1982, the staircase comprises of 241 steps made primarily of wood, zigzagging down the cliff side to the beach below.  Mesa Lane Beach is a narrow strip of sand popular among locals for beach activities and surfing. It’s essential to note that during high tide, the beach may be mostly submerged, so planning visits around low tide is advisable.

  • Located 10 minutes by car from downtown Santa Barbara.
  • Nice staircase with views all the way down with beach access, can work out running up and down the stairs with a view.
  • Dog friendly, surf friendly with the correct swell.
