Franceschi Park, Santa Barbara

Franceschi Park is a 15-acre park located at 1510 Franceschi Road in Santa Barbara, California, situated on the city’s Riviera. The park offers panoramic views of Santa Barbara and the Pacific Ocean.  The park was once the residence of renowned Italian horticulturist Dr. Francesco Franceschi, who operated a botanical garden and nursery on the property from 1903 to 1913. During this time, he introduced over 900 plant species to Santa Barbara’s Mediterranean climate, many of which remain in the park today.  A notable feature of the park is the historic Franceschi House, also known as “Montarioso.” Built in 1905 by Dr. Franceschi, the house has undergone several changes over the years and is now in a state of disrepair. The city is exploring plans to revitalize the site and is seeking community input for future developments.  Franceschi Park is open daily from sunrise to half an hour after sunset. The on-site parking lot is locked each night, so vehicles left after closing will be inaccessible until the following morning.

  • Entry is free from sunrise until 30 minutes after sunset.
  • Located just 10 minutes by car from downtown Santa Barbara along the Riviera.
  • Amenities include restrooms, 10 parking spaces, and easy walking paths throughout the park.
  • Picnic benches and seating offer stunning scenic views.

Words from the Photographer: My favorite park, from the sunrise to sunset, taking small walks to the upper portion of the park, it is absolutely gorgeous whenever you chose to go.
