Jalama Beach, Santa Barbara County

Known for its rugged beauty and “off-the-beaten-path” atmosphere, the beach is accessed via a scenic 14-mile winding road that travels through rolling hills and ranch land. Historically significant as a former Chumash settlement named Halama, the area is now a popular destination for camping, surfing, and birdwatching, though it is famously windswept and can feature rough surf. One of its most legendary attractions is the Jalama Beach Store and Grill, which draws visitors from all over the state specifically for the “World Famous Jalama Burger.” Because there is no cell service or Wi-Fi, it remains one of the few places on the California coast where travelers can truly unplug and experience the shoreline in its natural state.
